Other Services and Patient Information

In addition to sports medicine, orthopaedic surgeries, regenerative medicine and interventional spine treatments, we also offer a number of other specialized services such as independent medical evaluations, impairment ratings, personal injury depositions, chart review and fracture casting/custom orthotic fitting.

Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) and Medical Impairment Ratings

Permanent partial disability is a type of workers’ compensation case wherein a worker has suffered either an injury or occupational disease that has resulted in a permanent partial disability and their condition prevents them from performing their job at the same level they were able to previously. Some common types of PPD include things like carpal tunnel syndrome, joint injuries and several other orthopaedic issues.

Accurately ascertaining the level to which an injury or condition prevents a person from returning to their job or field of work is essential to the results of workers’ compensation cases and in the determination of future Social Security Administration (SSA) disability benefits.

The team at Barbour Orthopaedics are qualified to perform independent Impairment Rating Evaluations (IREs). During these evaluations, a highly skilled physician will analyze a patient’s injury or condition and provide a percentage of impairment level, 0 being not impaired and 100 being entirely impaired. This impairment rating will help insurers and SSA determine the amount of compensation and the length of PPD benefits.

Independent Medical Evaluations (IME)

When people are injured in accidents, especially when the cause of their injury was potentially due to the negligence of another individual, company or third party, a personal injury attorney may encourage the accident injury victim to undergo an independent medical evaluation (IME).

An unbiased orthopaedic injury specialist will perform careful, highly targeted diagnostics and injury analysis to document the extent of injuries, accurately attribute the cause of injuries, estimate the time and cost of recovery and provide other invaluable information for the patient and their attorneys.

The team at Barbour Orthopaedics has extensive experience performing IMEs in Atlanta and throughout Georgia. We have highly sought after orthopaedic experts due to their reputation for orthopaedic surgery excellence as well as their broad base of knowledge as it pertains to orthopaedic injuries, treatment methods and predicting recovery potential.

If you or a client require IME services, contact Barbour Orthopaedics by calling (404) 480-9330.

Narrative Report

Doctor narratives most often come into play in workers’ compensation cases. Similar to an IME, a doctor’s narrative can be used as evidence and justification for workers’ comp claims. If you or a client are in need of a narrative relating to an orthopaedic injury, contact the Barbour Orthopaedics team today.

Physician Depositions

Doctor deposition testimony is most often called for during a personal injury case where a patient has been injured due to an auto accident, slip and fall or another incident. The Barbour Orthopaedics team is open to calls from attorneys to discuss their client’s condition and may appear for depositions on some cases if appropriate.

Durable Medical Equipment and Casting

There’s a lot more to casting than wrapping an arm or leg in plaster and a lot more to orthotic fitting than taking a one-size-fits-all device out of a package. Certified Orthopaedic Technologists (OTCs), like the ones on the Barbour Orthopaedics team have specialized training in the application and fitting of casts and orthopedic devices, which can range from crutches and walkers to sports braces, foot orthotics and compression stockings.

In many cases, the results of orthopaedic surgery or the success of a long-term rehabilitation plan is reliant on minimizing movement or holding the affected limb or appendage in place. Patients, understandably, want to keep living their lives. OTCs help educate patients on their orthopedic device and cast options and help them understand how to care for their devices while still performing day-to-day activities and getting around effectively.

We also help many athletes with customized sports bracing equipment to prevent repetitive motion injuries.

Chart Review

Chart reviews can take a number of different forms, but generally entails providing a service similar to a second opinion wherein a specialist reviews a patient’s information and provides recommendations regarding things like treatments, medication, potential procedures, physical therapy or length of rehabilitation. The team at Barbour Orthopaedics is happy to provide chart review on a diverse array of orthopaedic and spine conditions.

TeleMed Follow-Ups

We’re happy to make our care as accessible as possible, and this include performing follow-up assessments and appointments through TeleMed follow-ups. This allows our patients to rest and recuperate in the comfort of their own home without having to take an arduous trip to one of our offices for a follow-up appointment after a procedure has been performed. We may also be able to provide TeleMed services for other situations as well.
